Yabu: The House of Katsu

1:51 AM

Konnichiwa! Me and boyfriend watched Chibi Maruko Chan (for the nth time hehe) and Killer Virgin Road last week which were really good! We both love Japanese movies. That made us crave for Japanese food! After the movie night, we decided to try Yabu: The House of Katsu located at 2nd floor, The Atrium, SM Megamall the next day.

Yabu is the first and authentic Katsu restaurant here in the Philippines. They offer different signature Tonkatsu dishes - like pork, beef, chicken and seafood. I love the cozy ambiance inside the restaurant and the interesting manga wall decors. The waiters would greet the customers warmly and check you from time to time if you need any assistance.

Complete Japanese condiments. From left: Katsu sauce. The two tall bottles contained the cabbage dressing (soy vinaigrette and sesame dressing). The red small bottle was Togarashi (chili pepper), the yellow one was Chili Oil, and the green was Sansho Pepper. The pig container is for the Pink Salt - a bit sweet and gingery.

Here's the fun part: You need to grind the sesame seeds with our mortal and pestle and mixed together with 2 scoops of their Signature Katsu sauce. It is called the Katsu ritual. Just Grind, Pour, Mix, and Dip. Mine ended up too salty XD

For appetizer set, we ordered Wakame (seaweed salad with Ebiko) and Potato Salad (P175 for the set). Well, I think I made the right choice 'cause I love seaweeds! How I wish we could have an unlimited wakame side dish.

We ordered Chicken and Seafood Katsu Set - Black Tiger Prawn, Cream Dory, Scallop, Oyster, and Squid (P475 for this Katsu set).

Complete with Japanese rice, miso soup, unlimited cabbage with sesame dressing, and a bowl of pineapple and watermelon slices. HUGE serving! We cant even finish our Katsu set so make sure to prepare enough space in your tummy before dining here.

I really love their Katsu! One of a kind, indeed. Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. I wonder what's their secret? :) After that, we had Magnum ice creams for dessert. We had happy and big tummies after the meal.

Thank you to Ms. Isay, Ms. Jessica, Mr. Mon and the rest of the Yabu team who accomodated us that day! I highly recommend Yabu. It's one of the best Japanese restaurants we've tried so far. With their hard working team and excellent customer service, everyone will truly enjoy the "Katsu Craze"!
