This year, the Zonta Club of Makati and Environs will be having their annual pre-Christmas bazaar, FilipinaZ Fair, on November 4 to 6 at SMX Aura, SM Aura Premier in BGC, Taguig. FilipinaZ Fair brings together three things that appeal to the Filipino consumer: Lifestyle, Fashion and Food, by showcasing the finest exhibitors for arts and crafts, fashion and cuisine.

Be like Santa Claus to the many women and young girls to whom the FilipinaZ Fair is for. The Zonta Club of Makati and Environs (ZCME) spearheads the FilipinaZ Fair to raise funds to further their various projects that focuses on empowering women in all forms and ages.
16 days of activism as Zonta says No to Violence against Women which will be launched on November 25 at The Fort Santiago, Manila.
These projects include: Empowering Women Scholarship Program, psychological care for sexually abused children, NO to Early Marriage and Teenage Pregnancy Advocacy, and many more. Proceeds from the fair will also help ZCME to continue serving the many disadvantaged women and children. You may not know it, but, by making a purchase to the many exhibitors of the fair you are funding ZCME’s various projects, a gift to our disadvantaged sisters. Now isn’t that what Santa Claus is about?

Christmas is not complete without decors and food. FilipinaZ Fair have a wide array of businesses that sell locally made food products that we love, craved for and have grown into. The Belen, the highlight of the Filipino Christmas decoration. Vivo Handicrafts, the maker of this unique white Belen, is the brainchild of Vida Hayes after agreeing to her husband’s suggestion of sharing her designs and use them to market handmade goods from her native Philippines. Each purchase of their products helps local artisans/retired women in the provinces of the Philippines, whose skills are behind the beautifully crafted handicrafts.
Christmas is about giving. If you think that every purchase at the FilipinaZ Fair is only for giving to your love ones, think again. All purchases not only fund ZCME’s various projects, but also give back something to our local craftsmen. I’m not only talking about money here, but also opportunities and recognition. Buying locally made products help a community grow, contribute to the artisans’ aspirations and livelihood, boost local economy and recognize local arts and culture. Supporting their craft is giving them all these.
Wanting to promote culture preservation and at the same time generate employment for the women and youth of the Kabayan community in Benguet, Maxencia Pili took the initiative to revive loom weaving, thus Kabayan Weaving Arts and Crafts was born. This enterprise has sustained the making of quality traditional attires and has expanded their products to table runners, coin purses, bags, cellphone cases, vests and lemon grass oil.
For us, these colorful bags of My Souvenir Bag de Basey are fashion statements, but to the community in Basey, Samar these are symbols of hope. After witnessing the devastation left by typhoon Yolanda in their community, Magdaleno Gaddi established the Banig de Basey to rebuild the ticog banig industry and make this enterprise boom again through new twists, creativity and innovations.
One of my personal favorites are the ballet paintings by Ronna Manasala, the grand daughter of the Philippines’ National Artist in Visual Arts, Vicente Manansala. Visit her space at the FilipinaZ Fair this November!
