For me, Art Fair Philippines this year stood out not just for the artist and gallery lineup, but for its merry-go-round experience.

Held from Feb 6-8 at Circuit Makati, one of the most noticeable changes, of course, was the new venue. Moving away from the heart of Makati was a bold move. Even us, Siamese, couldn’t believe how the fair managed to pull it all off inside a multi-floor office building! But that’s part of the charm of Art Fair Philippines, right? Transforming found spaces into a dynamic art environment!

The 10 Days of Art initiative with the Art Walk program this year was a highlight. These are art installations and exhibitions all over Makati that you can enjoy for free. I was particularly happy to experience the “Carousel” by Ronald Ventura before it made its way to Singapore. I still wonder how would people ride on the manananggal…
At kahit paguran, I am so happy to see old and new faces! Met a Greenbelt cat too!

Much like a ride, the exhibits this year felt more diverse and immersive. Probably because I’ve been to each edition since 2015. Each floor unfolded interesting visuals, from paintings and sculptures, to digital works, immersive installations and unexpected performances. Everything and everyone create a certain energy that keeps you engaged, making you want to go around again and even use the stairs over and over to explore the galleries and discover new works each time.

Definitely love the strong showcase of Filipino contemporary art this year and the presence of international galleries as it opened up more opportunities for dialogue and engagement.

Did you visit Art Fair Philippines this year? What was your favorite exhibition?
