When the “Wicked” movie finally hit the big screen, I could barely contain my excitement. I wasn’t a big fan as in memorizing all the lines but I liked the fact that they’ll turn it into a movie. I’m more of a Wizard of Oz fan and it’s connected in some ways, anyway, so my excitement was too high.
And because of the movie release, I also wanted the Mattel-released Elphaba and Glinda dolls. The only problem? Choosing between the regular and deluxe versions especially on Glinda!
It’s her playful costumes. The singing Glinda comes dressed in her charming “Popular” look that’s light, fun, and instantly recognizable. And it’s THE Popular outfit!
The deluxe version dazzles in her iconic pink bubble gown, all elegance and sparkle, like she’s stepped straight out of Oz.
I felt completely torn: do I go for the cutesy playful Glinda’s “Popular” dress or the full fairytale glamour of the bubble gown?
I’ve always been drawn to pink, and there’s something so fun about the playability of the Glinda doll. But in reality, Elphaba has my heart. There’s a depth to her character that pulls me in every time, hence my setup.
And maybe this is a bit unexpected, but I personally think “There’s no place like home” song was a beautiful addition to “Wicked: Part 2.” There’s something about that sentiment of finding where you truly belong that resonates deeply with Elphaba’s journey. And I love animals! Wish I can acquire more animal friends in this scale. I’ve always had a soft spot for animals, and anything that ties back to that sense of home and connection just feels right.
My Wicked/Wizard of Oz era will clearly never end. From vinyls and Polly Pockets to all sorts of collectibles. I just need to replenish my… budget. HAHA!
