United Fashion Show and Globe’s Bulig 4 Aklan Project

Last month, I was able to strut the runway once again despite of my busy schedule! Mario D’ Boro invited me to join United Fashion Show as one of their featured bloggers. The fashion show featured rainy, holiday, and formal design collection of Cardam’s, Liberté, and Mario D’boro this year.

I was praying all night not to get high heels for the show as I might not be able to balance myself well and trip (due to lack of sleep) and it looked like they heard my prayer — I was asked to wear a pair of leather boots!

I love its style and color. Perfect for the rainy season!
Sometimes, it’s weird seeing myself on the big screen >.<

Some of the celebrities who also joined the fashion show were Gretchen Ho, Richard Poon, Kim Rodriguez, and Arron Villaflor. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Thank you Mario D’ Boro!

I arrived early for the show. Thank goodness I had a good mobile internet connection that time so I was still able to do some stuff while waiting. Globe’s the best! And speaking of, I’m glad to know that Globe Telecom is helping Aklan for rehab and recovery efforts since it was damaged by Super Typhoon Haiyan. Aklan has incurred P2.811 billion losses in infrastructure and agriculture last year and most of the residents were not only homeless but also no livelihood to support themselves.

Through their project “Bulig 4 Aklan,” Globe has committed to provide education, housing, health, and livelihood assistance to seven affected towns, namely: Libacao, Madalag, Banga, Batan, Altavas, Balete, New Washington. Sounds great! (But what does bulig means, seriously?)

With the help of Habitat for Humanity and Ayala Foundation, Globe will build “Noah’s Ark”-type classrooms that double as evacuation structures during calamities as they are equipped with three toilet and bath facilities as well as a kitchen. They will also provide more than 30 regular but “built back better” classrooms to be funded from proceeds of the company’s enterprise-wide waste management program, as well as from parent-company Ayala Corporation.

On the other hand, Globe has started building 20 homes in New Washington in partnership with Gawad Kalinga and UT Global Foundation. Twenty-eight houses are also set to be constructed in Libacao on top of the 600 shelter kits to be distributed in the municipality before yearend. Earlier, Globe gave out 940 shelter kits in Madalag. The shelter kit project is being undertaken by Globe together with the Inter Church Cooperation Organization.

That’s a lot of work and I’m really glad that different companies and organizations are joining hands to improve their living. Aside from education and house buildin, Globe is also helping hospitals and health centers by implementing the Supplemental Feeding Program (SFP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development for children 3-6 years old in Madalag.

The SFP aims to improve the knowledge, attitude and practices of children enrolled in government pre-schools through food supplementation in a form of hot meals to be served during snack/meal time five days in a week for 120 days. This will be managed by the parents based on a prepared meal cycle using available indigenous food.

Livelihood is, likewise, being provided through Custom Made Crafts Center, a non-government organization involved in dye and abaca production and the Non-Timber Forest Products Exchange Programme aside from the distribution of AutoloadMax retailer kits to 100 beneficiaries of the DSWD’s Pantawid Pampamilyang Pilipino Program in Malay. Globe also added the public service component in its efforts by supporting the Gobyerno sa Baryo, an initiative that brings government services to the barrios.

Now, I feel that the rainy days are here once again and there are still a lot of areas that haven’t recovered yet. So please, no typhoons for now ha! I’d really pray for that. If given the opportunity, I’d love to visit Aklan and help in anyway I can.
