How to Be Like Barbie?

I no longer play with Barbie dolls but I recently started adding them up again in my doll collection as it positively influenced my younger years. I personally think that a doll collection with a great story with it is more interesting than just hoarding stuff as I grow older.

As a kid, I got envy of all those gowns, shoes, beautiful faces and blonde hair my Barbies have. How could Barbie be so perfect?  I wanted to be a Barbie doll. Barbie was my source of inspiration when it comes to appearance back then.

Dress from MAV Studio // Suede Gloves from Promod // Tiara from Etude House
Shoes from Mongkok // Earrings and Pearl Bracelets from SM Accessories

Makeup used: Etude House Precious Mineral BB Creamm, Ellana Minerals Intensive Blend Foundation, Canmake Perfect Styling Eyes, 4U2 Sexxy Me Lusty Matt Lipstick 04

But as I grew older and while their heads broke one by one, I realize that Barbie isn’t not the perfect role model after all. I like my messy hair and I won’t give up sweets for a perfect body. I love my flabs here and there. Not that I didn’t want to be healthy but I am very sure I won’t starve myself to death nor trouble the surgeon’s knife just to look “presentable” to everyone’s eyes.  I just want to be myself. I can be a doll in my own way, may it be awful or scary for some, but definitely not something that would cost my life. Thanks to my interest in drawing – at an early stage, I learned that Barbie’s body proportion is unrealistic so no “di-yet” plans were made when I was a kid. Just a good inspiration to draw human figures with detailed outfits and styled hair. Also, playing dress up with Barbie taught me how to mix and match dresses with accessories well. It was a good styling practice. I enjoyed playing with her and she made me very happy. My Barbie experiences were all positive. I think the influence of this doll depends on the person playing with it. Admiring Barbie’s beauty is normal, she can be a peg for life, but be sure you’re not overdoing it.

One thing I believe, playing Barbie dolls inspire us girls to be fashionable at an early early age. And gain our own confidence.

    1. True! But not too much arte for kids ah ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I got the tiara from one of their events!

  6. Glad you developed your own sense of style and your own look, even though you went through adoration of Barbie. I believe those of us who played with Barbie all wondered why it seemed like everything was perfect. I think that's the self exploration we go through with many influences. Is this me? It's a great question to have and great inner dialogue to encourage in life. CHeers, Maria

    1. Barbie seemed to be so perfect but as we grow old we realized that she is just a playdoll in a wonderland. Thanks for the comment!
