Help Dogs at Mandaluyong Animal Shelter

Yappie

Last week was a different adventure. We visited an animal shelter and volunteered to help feed the doggies! My sister went to Mandaluyong Animal Shelter a month ago to deliver donations from their office and to volunteer. I loved the idea and told her that I wanted to help as well so we went back and did the same thing again.

If you have time, please please please visit MAS as well and extend your kindness. Not everyone has the chance to take a good bath. Dogs battle with one another for their share of food. Some of them are sick. Only a few are lucky to survive but almost every week, a buddy needs to say good bye. Their place isn’t clean enough as well – the government staff is not disposing the dead bodies properly and in fact there’s a spot in the shelter where you can smell it. That’s not good for the health of other dogs. In short, the place is really in a bad shape. Good thing there are volunteers to help improve the shelter even just for weekends.

Happy tummy finally!

There is a volunteer veterinarian who checks on them however, there are hundreds of paws who are waiting for their turn and be cured before they can be adopted. Same with the volunteers. They need more helping hands!
To everyone with a good heart, here are some ways on how to help MAS:
Donate – aside from dog food, the shelter needs dog shampoos, collars, crate pads and mat
MAS is a government-run shelter and cannot accept cash donations
Volunteer – they need more pet lovers to help them bathe the dogs (it’s summer!), feed, wash bowls and cages
Sponsor – help pay bills for the dogs’ medical needs, vaccines and treatments by sponsorship
Adopt or foster – adopt a dog and save a life

Achievement unlocked! Washed hundreds of plates that afternoon! Weeee~ I consider that as alternative arm exercise. Pampafirm ng braso yun!

Major

Eton enjoyed his first experience too! We’ll definitely go back at the shelter to volunteer.

After feeding, we made ‘meatballs’ and gave it to the dogs just to make sure that everyone gets a chance to eat. I’m such a brave girl to place the meatball near their fangs. I’ve got no anti-rabies shot but I’m not really afraid of dog bites. I don’t know why.

Meet Meatloaf

Meatloaf left pawprints on my shirt. A very tiring but fulfilling day! Sobrang saya ko kahit may sakit ako.
Hundreds of dogs are waiting for their furever homes. Please give them a second chance. They might not look as gorgeous as your dream pet dog (I hate to say but some people only pet just to show off how many purebred dogs they have) but with tender love and care, these aspins will surely become the most adorable member of your family!

Most of the dogs at the shelter were sadly ‘dumped’ or abandoned by their owners. It makes my heart sink to think that these dogs were unloved and had to stay at the shelter all their lives. If only I could foster all those lovely aspins… To be honest, I don’t think I am ready to adopt one yet after I lost Kimpee. I am still learning to become a 100% responsible pet owner and by volunteering at the shelter, I’m taking one step forward at a time.

Please share this post to your friends. With your help, these dogs will definitely find a loving family soon. Will it be at your home? 🙂

I am writing this letter to your organisation after seeing this morning’s news.

The people are being evacuated around the volcano area but, THEY HAVE BEEN ORDERED TO LEAVE THE ANIMALS BEHIND.

Pictures of poor dogs on the streets with no food or water being left alone to starve to death is horrendous.

    How can this be allowed!!!!????

Surely the animal welfare organisation in the Philippines MUST go in and rescue these poor animals.

How would these heartless people in authority like to be left behind to starve to death or die of thirst!?

These animals rely on humans to provide for them.

They are not wild animals and cannot fend for themselves. In this case even the wild animals need rescuing too.

They are sentient beings who feel the same pain, suffering and abandonment they we humans feel.

I am and have been part of animal welfare organisations my whole life and support financially local and worldwide animal rescue organisations.

I employ you to have a heart and rescue these suffering animals without delay.

For the love of all animals
